Goal

Add rename_tabs.py to the herdr-cli skill: labels every agent's herdr tab
with a one-word summary of its current task.

Why

herdr does not capture or expose Claude's own OSC terminal-title escape
anywhere in its CLI (verified: writing a raw OSC title into a pane and
reading it back shows no trace -- herdr strips it before storage), so there
was no way to relay "the title Claude already sets." This script derives its
own one-word label instead.

What it does

  • Polls herdr agent list, filters to panes herdr has detected as an actual
    agent (skips plain terminal panes).
  • Reads each agent pane's recent output and asks a cheap model
(claude -p --model haiku) for one word describing the current task.
  • Renames the tab via herdr tab rename.
  • Hashes each pane's tail text so unchanged/idle panes are skipped on the
next poll -- no repeat model calls.

Stdlib only; needs herdr and claude on PATH. Documented in the skill's
SKILL.md alongside the existing orchestration reference.

primitives for driving several coding-agent panes from one orchestrator
session, plus footguns (blocked-status ambiguity, send vs run, target

feat(herdr-cli): add rename_tabs.py to label agent tabs by task

Polls herdr agent list, reads each agent pane's recent output, asks a
cheap model for one word describing the current task, and renames the
tab via herdr tab rename. Skips plain terminal panes and unchanged
panes (hashed tail text) to avoid redundant model calls.

Confirmed live: herdr connects over a Unix domain socket at a fixed
path with no process-ancestry requirement, so the CLI works from a
plain terminal, cron, or launchd -- not just inside a herdr pane.
Documents the cron --once pattern using the now-persisted dedup state.
